CNN to challenge Fox News by giving viewers "hard news" ---CNN still doesn't get it. Fox may flag-wave a bit, but that's OK. As Americans, we're ready to hear some enthusiasm for this country. You're not going to get that at CNN. CNN seems to almost exult in what's wrong in America. Watch them for 10 minutes and you get depressed. Watch Fox and there's some sizzle, some optimism and some enthusiasm.

Not that Fox is always happy talk. I notice this morning they are leading their news with the troubles President Bush is having over bad intelligence over Iraq.

On a related theme, lot's of questions being leveled at Bush this week - the African uranium flap, lingering security problems in Iraq, in-fighting in the intelligence community and more. Hasn't been Bush's best week.

Political opponents take heed. Just as we conservatives underestimated the political skills of Bill Clinton, so are the Bush-haters out there who are seriously underestimating the political survival skills of this President. As a matter of fact, I share the view that the President needs to better articulate our post-war Iraq policies. I say that as one who sees a communications gap developing over this issue. But I remain convinced of the outcome in Iraq with faith in the military and the President to solve the problem. Until Bush doesn't do what he says he'll do, I'll remain in his camp.

The Dems big objection to fair elections and proper ID's at the polling place is - as usual - scare tactics and the ol' race card being played. Read here what Gov. Napolitano of Arizona (who is from NM) said about the hardships of presenting proper ID, as she vetoed the voter ID bill in Arizona.

Nobody has yet to explain to me how, if you are a minority, you are somehow encumbered and overwhelmed at the voting booth by having to prove your identity. If that is such a burden, then how it is minorities have bank accounts, fly on airplanes and purchase some liquor now and then?

If I were a minority, having the Governor tell me I'm unable to think for myself, much less manage to vote, would be far more insulting than complimentary.

Proponents of the Governor Davis recall effort in California declare victory. I'm guessing there will be an election this Fall - maybe November.

And it's good news for New Mexico - in the sense that Governor Bill Richardson will emerge as one of the power brokers for the Western states. He already has a toe-hold on that reputation, operating from a state with no deficit (thanks Gary Johnson!) and a freshly-passed tax cut. That in stark contrast to the Davis administration in Cal.

A caveat to California - If you're gonna dump Davis (and you should), just be business-like about it. Let the system work and don't do any fist-pumping or victory dances. That will be perceived as vengeful and bitter partisanship. Just humbly take the victory, act like it was meant to be, then get to work and restore the integrity of the state.

The story about the flag at the D-Day museum in Bayeaux, France is much ado about nothing. The museum is dedicated to the British Army who actually liberated Bayeaux and the flag missing in the picture is from the British regiment The Sherwood Rangers. No U.S. flag flew there and we Americans are not being snubbed...at least by THIS group of French citizens. Sorry about the confusion.
